Theresa Hayes has worked in the public and private sector for over 30 years in management, communications, marketing, training, and business development. As a Communications and Marketing Manager for the Environmental Services Department, Theresa and her team implement local, regional, and national strategic communications.

Theresa is a Certified Conflict Mediator and uses these skills to help people resolve conflict. In addition, she conducts workshops in Leadership and Management for city staff and SJSU graduate students. Theresa often serves as a mentor for City staff and San José State University (SJSU) interns. She was a key leader/trainer in the Citywide Recognition and Mentoring Programs. Theresa has the distinction of serving as Vice President of the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). She is a twice recipient of the City’s Pride of San José award, three Mayoral Commendations, and several department-specific awards.

While working full time, Theresa completed her Masters Degree in Holistic Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in 2011; she has Bachelor Degrees in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from the University of South Florida.

Theresa enjoys reading and outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, white water rafting and kayaking. Being of service and making a difference is her life’s priority.
